LED 101

An ‘Efficiency Droop’ is defined as the lowering of luminous efficiency of an LED chip as its Electrical Current is increased. In general, a lower current would increase its lumens to wattage ratio and vice versa.  The compromise with a higher efficiency and lower current is that it would require additional LED Chips to make up for the lower absolute lumens radiated from the light source.  The additional LED Chips would is an additional cost and many manufacturers would choose not to go this route.  kudos has its LED Chip configured to run at its ‘typical’ voltage and range. Some models actually run at a lower current to improve its luminous efficiency even further.
